In February 2009, one of my research assistants, Clare Stankwitz ‘11, and I attended the UN Environment Programme’s Governing Council/Global Ministerial Environment Forum in Nairobi, Kenya. My roles at the Governing Council included:
- North America Civil Society Representative
- Presenter at the High-Level Gender Forum
- Moderator of a Ministerial Roundtable on International Environmental Governance
During the Governing Council, we worked with Joe Ageyo, a Kenyan environmental jouralist, and with a film crew in Nairobi in producing an educational video – Global Environmental Governance: a Quest for Symphony.

In an effort to understand the evolution of global environmental governance and its institutions, I have undertaken interviews with national and international officials from around the world, including UNEP's former and its current Executive Director.
As part of a summer research program at the William and Mary Office in Washington, DC, my students and I interviewed a number of US and international policymakers seeking to understand the shifts in US environmental policy over the past forty years.
